The words have a process.

The vocabulary walk is open for editing the way a neighborhood is open: anyone can be heard, the words change only when the committee agrees, and every change keeps its history. Read the four pillars, then bring a word you would change to its talk page.

Every axis and every band of the walk is a page with plain words you can read and propose changes to. No account is needed to be heard: a proposal is a note on the talk page, not a key to the ladder.

Only the committee writes

Matching Wikimedia, the gate is on applying, not on speaking. Verified committee members — people whose identity is a provable contact, not a password vault — merge an agreed change into the workbook. The walk itself is generated from that workbook, so no page is ever hand-edited in place.

Talk comes first

Each proposal lives on the axis's talk section. Consensus is the test: a changed band lands only after its words stop being argued about. The exact issue that holds the talk is public and numbered forever.

Visible history

Every accepted change is a merge, and every merge is inspectable. The transcript of the walk — what was said, what was kept, what was left out — stays in the open. Ledgers keep history, never truth; the history is where you check us.

How a change reaches the ladder

  1. Stand somewhere. Walk the room c43.org/opengaf/; press toward the axis whose words feel not-quite-right to you.
  2. Say so on the talk page. From any axis you can open its talk section with the current words already quoted — your proposed words ride in the same message. Nobody needs an account to be heard.
  3. Talk it over. Committee members and neighbors reply on the same thread. Consensus does not mean unanimity; it means the objection with the best words stops being able to improve the change.
  4. A verified member applies it. The committee — people whose identity is a provable contact — merges the agreed wording into the workbook. The committee desk is public: it shows the roll, checks your seat against your own Mine card, and turns a settled thread into one apply sheet.
  5. The extractor rebuilds the room. tools/extract.py regenerates the walk's words from the workbook. The ladder only ever shows what made it through all four doors.

Watching is a local promise: it lives here (cs_gaf_watch_v1), never on a server. From any axis’s talk page, press Watch this axis — the last-known words ride along with a pocket fingerprint, so this list can say honestly when the ladder drifts. This is a “check these” list, not a notification inbox; true notifications are gated on the identity slice (issue #93).

Read one change, plainly

Before settled words land in the ladder, the committee reads exactly the change. Paste two versions — or open one from a watched axis above — and read the lines that moved.

The process mirrors Wikimedia's model — talk, consensus, protected apply — as a small local loop, not a MediaWiki deployment. The walk remains a vocabulary walk, not a diagnosis; the words are a conversation's scaffolding, swappable by the same process that wrote them. This page is the back of the shop; the room is the front.
